A PDF ISN’T NECESSARILY A VECTOR FILE. AND NEITHER IS AN AI FILE.

Somewhere along the way, the design industry decided that asking for an AI or PDF file was the same as asking for vector artwork. Now everyone repeats it like gospel, often without understanding what those formats actually contain.

Here’s a simple analogy: Putting a hamburger inside a pizza box doesn’t magically turn it into a pizza.

Likewise, putting a JPEG inside a PDF doesn’t magically turn it into vector artwork. Congratulations! You’ve successfully put a pixelated image inside a more sophisticated container.

And then there’s the almighty AI file. No, not artificial intelligence. Adobe Illustrator. Because apparently, we needed another reason to confuse people.

The reality is that professional designers use all kinds of software, including Adobe Illustrator, Inkscape, CorelDRAW, and other vector applications. Each has its own capabilities and file formats. No single application has a monopoly on good design.

At Andysheh Design, we generally prefer SVG and EPS for exchanging vector artwork when appropriate.

SVG is an open, scalable format that’s excellent for digital graphics and cross-platform compatibility. EPS remains useful in traditional printing, signage, and fabrication workflows. Neither is perfect, but both can provide practical alternatives to proprietary formats.

And to be clear, there’s nothing inherently wrong with PDF or AI files. A properly prepared PDF can be an excellent production file. The problem is assuming that a file extension guarantees what’s inside.

Requesting a particular file extension without understanding its contents is technically meaningless.

What matters is the artwork itself. Clean paths, accurate geometry, properly handled typography, and files that can actually be used for their intended purpose.

Because when you’re producing signage, large-format graphics, vinyl lettering, or other fabricated products, discovering that your supposedly “vector” artwork is actually a low-resolution JPEG can turn a simple project into an expensive headache.

THAT’S WHERE ANDYSHEH DESIGN COMES IN.

Have a blurry logo? A pixelated graphic? A PDF that looks professional until someone tries to enlarge it? Or artwork your sign shop can’t use?

Andysheh Design provides professional raster-to-vector conversion, artwork cleanup, and production-ready graphic files to help bridge the gap between what you have and what your project actually requires.

Stop sending your printer a hamburger in a pizza box.
